Data Centres

Vision:

To help individuals and organisations become best practice green producers and consumers of IT services. Aligned with the AIIA / ACS Green IT initiative the Data Centre Focus Group will engage ICT Professionals to help shape the use of sustainable and efficien practices in the area of Data Centre design, construction, operations and decommissioning.


Key Objectives:

  • Clarify data centre “green” compliance techniques, practices and measures.
  • Show how data centres going “beyond compliance” are both socially and fiscally responsible.
  • Develop whole of lifecycle awareness and management of the data centre and its devices.
  • Provide a networking forum for all those involved or interested in greening Data Centres.
  • Generate, utilise and augment an open Green IT knowledge base on making data centres “greener”.
  • Increase the adoption of Green IT through knowledge share, stakeholder engagement and best practice recognition.


Goals and Principles:

IT will be best practice green consumers

  • Data Centres (DC) and their infrastructure will operate in the most (environmentally) efficient manner.
  • DC will comply with all corporate and government green initiatives, policies and plans.
  • DC as a business will operate in the most (environmentally) conscious manner.
  • DC as a business will showcase how green initiatives also save money

DC will provide services that are green

  • IT Automation will be used wherever possible to reduce environmental impact
  • IT will support new environmentally friendly ways of working
  • IT will specify green standards for IT procurements


Why Get Involved?

The focus group provides a forum for contributing to the improvement of sustainable practices in data centres.  We can make a real difference by providing a synthesis of current information, standards, techniques and emerging technologies and package it for the full range of stakeholder groups. The group will provide an excellent forum for collaborating, learning and sharing with your peers.
