eWaste

Vision 

To provide a community based Ewaste service to collect and recycle end of life computer equipment in an environmentally responsible manner.


Goals

  1. To implement an ongoing program of Ewaste collection throughout each state.
  2. To participate in the development of a national collection and recycling scheme for end of life computer equipment.


Initiatives

1. To work with partners to implement an ongoing program of Ewaste collection throughout Queensland.

  • To provide up to four collection days within South East Queensland in the 2009/10 financial year period.
  • To agree on a branded generic program that can be leveraged by all stakeholder groups (such as ByteBack).
  • To derive a funding model that provides the collection and recycling service to the community for free.

2. To participate in the development of an ongoing national collection and recycling scheme for end of life computer equipment.

  • Endorse a national scheme.
  • Lobby state governments and other key stakeholders to support the implementation of the national program.
  • Communicate and inform stakeholder groups on scheme developments.

Milestones & Metrics

  • Establish the working group membership and implement branded program
  • Confirm commitment from stakeholder groups and establish action plan with agreed roles and responsibilities
  • Secure Funding
  • Collect 500 tonnes in the next 12 months (avoids 2730 tonnes of carbon)
  • Implement the ongoing program
  • Set up facilities within Council collection points for ongoing Ewaste collection by June 2010
  • Report on program performance by July 2010
